Stop guessing. Start shooting.

Prague spires glowing in golden morning backlight

You have a couple of mornings in Prague and a camera in your bag. Where do you go? Which bridge, which staircase, which hour? Most photographers spend their first trip figuring that out, and go home with the same crowded shots as everyone else.

This guide is the shortcut. It comes from five years of early mornings on these streets, in a city I have called home for more than twenty. I have already stood in the cold long before sunrise, waited for the fog and learned which corner catches the first light in October. You just show up at the right place, at the right time.

Charles Bridge at Dawn

Inside the ebook

Charles Bridge at Dawn

Charles Bridge is simply the number-one spot in Prague. I head there whenever the conditions look interesting and I have no other plan. It comes alive in the morning, and if you arrive before sunrise, you will sometimes have the entire bridge to yourself. My favourite moment is roughly 15 minutes before sunrise, when the lamps are still burning and there is already enough ambient light. The best vantage point is around the middle of the bridge, where I look for a symmetrical composition with the lamps leading the eye towards the Old Town Bridge Tower.

💡 Pro Tip · Charles Bridge at Dawn

The lamps switch off about 9 minutes before sunrise. Check the sunrise time the evening before and be in position 20 minutes earlier to catch lamplight mixed with the first daylight.

Now imagine that level of detail for all 25 locations.

Portrait of photographer Miro Maršík, author of the Prague Photo Location Guide

Hi, I'm Miro. I have lived in Prague for more than twenty years, and for the last five I have spent countless early mornings photographing it, usually on a bridge before the city wakes up.

More than 50,000 people follow my Prague photography on Instagram, and brands like CzechTourism, Insta360, Peak Design and vivo have trusted me with their campaigns. On my private photo walks I take photographers from all over the world to many of these spots.

This guide is everything I have learned about photographing Prague, in one place. It should save you a good chunk of the trial and error that took me years.

No. All focal lengths are given as full-frame equivalents, so you can match them on any camera or phone. A few of the alternative shots in the guide were taken on a phone. For some locations a telephoto lens helps, and the guide always tells you when.

Yes. Every location comes with a short photo lesson that explains the why behind the shot, such as leading lines, lens compression or natural framing. Experienced photographers get the exact spots, timing and settings to plan their mornings.

Mostly in the historic centre: Old Town, Lesser Town, Prague Castle, Petřín, Letná, Vyšehrad and Vítkov. Most are within walking distance of each other, the rest are a short tram ride away.

Absolutely. On a private sunrise photo walk we can shoot some of the locations from the guide together, at the right hour and from the right angle.
